Empower seven nubian families to build a sustainable future
AdmaCUM appeal for donations for the peace dahabeya “Helene”
The Project: Peace-Dahabeya Helene
Helene Walterskirchen (1950–2022) dedicated her life to people and to a lived culture of peace. She shared a particularly deep bond with the Nubian families of Southern Egypt. To her, a person’s religion, skin color, or nationality did not matter—she met everyone with the same warmth, respect, and dignity.
The Nubian families affectionately called her "our mother." At their express wish, the latest project by Admacum e.V. bears her name: the Peace-Dahabeya Helene.
Our Mission
Since 2004, Admacum e.V. has been supporting Nubian families in need in Southern Egypt. The association:
- Enables children from impoverished backgrounds to attend school, followed by university or vocational training.
- Finances life-saving medical treatments, such as kidney transplants.
- Creates sustainable livelihoods for fathers, including the construction and operation of feluccas and motorboats.
Our goal is to alleviate hardship and open the door to a self-determined, dignified future. Simultaneously, Admacum e.V. promotes a "charity culture" of peace, warmth, and mutual appreciation between Egyptian and German-speaking cultures.
The Project: Peace-Dahabeya Helene
This ship will provide a sustainable source of income for seven Egyptian fathers and their families.
- Traditional Meets Modern: The Dahabeya will feature twelve en-suite cabins, designed in the style of traditional Nile sailing ships. Two sails and a modern solar motor allow for eco-friendly travel even when there is no wind.
- The Journey: Routes will run between Aswan and Middle Egypt, visiting both world-famous and hidden cultural sites.
- Quality & Comfort: Built in Egypt to German/European quality standards, the ship offers the highest level of comfort, adhering to the Egyptian 5-star hotel categories required for tourist vessels.
- Sustainability & Wellness: Where locally possible, we prioritize organic and health-conscious amenities, including organic textiles, a restaurant serving certified organic food (whenever available), and measures to reduce electrosmog in cabins at night.
- Recreation: The sun deck will feature a small swimming pool, a relaxation area with sun loungers, and spaces for yoga and meditation.
The construction period is approximately one year, with total costs amounting to €250,000. The Dahabeya will be captained by long-time Nubian captain and Admacum team member, Abdullah, and his experienced crew.
