The Peace Banderole Celebrates Its Relaunch at the Augsburg Children's Peace Festival

This time, the Peace Banderole was not set up in the Gärtnerhalle as before, but outdoors in front of the Überwinterungshalle (winter storage hall) in the Augsburg Botanical Garden. And even though the location was different, one thing remained the same: children and adults were invited to become part of the peace artwork themselves with their own picture of peace.

With bright colors, plenty of joy, and each person's own ideas, numerous smaller and larger artworks once again took shape on the Peace Banderole over the course of the peace festival. Some pictures were colorful and playful, while others expressed very personal thoughts on the theme of peace. It quickly became clear that peace can mean something different to every person — and that it does good to give these thoughts room to unfold.

The Peace Banderole was founded in 2010 by author and culture mentor Helene Walterskirchen and her daughter Alexandra Walterskirchen as a nonprofit project for peace education and peace art. By now, the Peace Banderole is 1.7 kilometers long, and it continues to grow with every picture and every person who leaves behind a piece of their personal message of peace on it.

For the Peace Banderole, participating this year meant more than just a painting event for peace. Following the death of Helene Walterskirchen in 2022, it marked a resurrection of this heartfelt project, which is now being carried forward by her daughter Alexandra Walterskirchen and the association Admacum e.V., which has supported the Peace Banderole for years.

We are therefore delighted that the Peace Banderole was able to be part of the Augsburg Children's Peace Festival once again — and above all, grateful for all the people who, with their pictures, their thoughts, and their joy, painted and immortalized a small piece of peace onto the banderole.
